Nepal is a country of natural beauty and warm people. It is most famous for its high Himalayan mountain peaks (Everest, Annapurna, etc), and is thus a fantastic place to go trekking. However, you don't miss out on Nepalese culture, so make sure to spend some parts of your trip moving around different small cities. The food is not as spectacular as Indian cuisine, though it shares a lot of similarities. Try local staples, such as dal bhat (all you can eat lentils and rice) and steamed momos (dumplings, usually filled with vegetables and/or meat).

Costs are very low in Nepal. Most meals are $1-2, hotel rooms (and hostels) can usually be had under $5, and public transport is on par with neighboring India. Trekking is a whole other cost, though, as you will need to purchase permits in order to trek in the various regions, and food tends to be expensive on treks. National parks can also be costly, as they come with entrance fees. You must also hire a guide if you don't want to risk being eaten by a tiger.

A low activity budget can be as low as $15 per day (or even lower). Once you start adding in trekking and the like, however, try to budget more. $20 per day should be sufficient, assuming you are trekking without a guide. Guides/porters bump up trekking costs by at least $15-20 extra per day.
